Our studio is just 20 minutes from Virginia Beach in Suffolk, which means no travel fees for VB sessions. We offer both on-location beach sessions ($900) and studio sessions ($750). Tulle maternity robes are available if you need them (color customized in post-production), or bring your own outfits - we encourage it!

Best for: Private, intimate sessions with dramatic dunes
Insider tip: The south end near Little Island Park has fewer crowds and taller dunes. Sunrise sessions here are stunning—the beach faces east so you get that golden glow directly on the water.
Best time: Sunrise (quietest) or 2 hours before sunset
Best for: Fairytale forest vibes, Spanish moss, and bay beaches
Insider tip: The Bald Cypress Trail has incredible light filtering through the trees in late afternoon. The bay side beaches are calmer than the ocean and perfect if you want water shots but prefer gentler waves.
Best time: 3-4 hours before sunset for forest light
Best for: Classic beach shots with the pier and boardwalk
Insider tip: Go to the north end past 40th Street for a more secluded feel. The fishing pier makes a dramatic backdrop. Avoid summer weekends unless you want a sunrise session.
Best time: Sunrise year-round, or sunset in off-season
Best for: Modern urban look (Town Center) or rustic farm fields (Pungo)
Insider tip: Town Center's fountains and architecture create a sophisticated backdrop. Pungo's lavender and sunflower fields (seasonal) offer stunning colors—but book early as they're popular!

Sandbridge is ideal if you want privacy, dramatic dunes, and a more secluded feel—it's residential so there are far fewer tourists. The Oceanfront is better if you want the iconic pier, boardwalk architecture, or plan to combine your session with a beach day. For sunrise sessions, I typically recommend Sandbridge. For sunset, both work beautifully.
For standard portrait sessions (just you and your photographer), no permit is required on Virginia Beach public beaches. However, if you're bringing props, large groups, or equipment beyond basic camera gear, permits may be needed. First Landing State Park has a small entrance fee but doesn't require photo permits for personal sessions.
Virginia Beach is beautiful year-round, but April-June and September-November offer the best conditions: comfortable temperatures, fewer crowds, and gorgeous light. Summer works great for sunrise sessions before the heat and crowds. Winter can be stunning with dramatic skies, but dress warmly!
Our Suffolk studio is approximately 20-25 minutes from most Virginia Beach locations via I-264. There are no travel fees for Virginia Beach sessions. Many clients do a combination: studio shots in our climate-controlled space, then head to the beach for golden hour. Tulle maternity robes are included for both!
We monitor weather closely and will contact you 24-48 hours before your session if conditions look unfavorable. You can reschedule to the next available date (no fee), or we can do the session in our Suffolk studio instead. Overcast days actually create beautiful, even lighting for portraits—so light clouds aren't a problem!
