At Motiontography, we offer a personalized approach to every session. Based right here in Suffolk, our comfortable, private studio is the perfect place to create intimate, controlled lighting portraits. Unlike other Hampton Roads photographers who travel in from Virginia Beach or Norfolk, we are Suffolk's own maternity photographer — our studio is located on Abbey Rd, which means you get the home advantage of a truly local artist who knows this city inside and out.
Suffolk is one of the most underrated maternity photography destinations in all of Hampton Roads. With its blend of rural beauty, historic charm, and natural landscapes, this city offers a range of stunning backdrops you simply cannot find elsewhere. From the serene waterways of Bennett's Creek and the lush trails near the Great Dismal Swamp, to the quaint streets of historic downtown Suffolk and the wide-open farm fields that stretch across the western part of the city, every session here tells a unique story.
Our studio sessions start at $750 and on-location Suffolk sessions at $900. Both include a pre-session consultation, 1.5-2 hour session, professional editing, and 15 edited images (11 advanced edits + 4 creative composites). We provide beautiful tulle maternity robes with the color customized in post-production, or bring your own outfits — we encourage it! Partners and children are always welcome at no extra charge.

When is the best time to schedule?
Ideally between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy, when your baby bump is beautifully visible and you're still comfortable. We recommend booking at least 4-6 weeks in advance to secure your preferred date, especially during spring and fall when Suffolk's outdoor locations are at their most beautiful.
What should I wear?
We recommend outfits that comfortably accentuate your baby bump. Solid colors photograph beautifully, and flowing fabrics look stunning in Suffolk's outdoor settings. We also provide tulle maternity robes with the color customized in post-production to match your vision perfectly.
Where do sessions take place?
Sessions can take place in our private Suffolk studio on Abbey Rd, or on-location at scenic spots like Bennett's Creek Park, Sleepy Hole Park, Constant's Wharf in historic downtown, or the beautiful rural farmland settings throughout western Suffolk.

Many clients love starting in the studio for polished portraits, then heading to a nearby outdoor location for golden hour shots.
How far in advance should I book my Suffolk maternity session?
We recommend booking 4-8 weeks before your ideal session date, which is typically when you're around 24-28 weeks pregnant. Weekend golden hour slots fill up fastest, especially in spring and fall. Since we're right here in Suffolk, we can also accommodate shorter-notice bookings when available — just give us a call at 757-759-8454.
