Portsmouth has a character all its own. With a rich naval history dating back centuries, this waterfront city blends colonial architecture with vibrant riverside scenery in a way that creates truly distinctive maternity portraits. Olde Towne's historic district is one of the most charming neighborhoods in all of Hampton Roads, with brick-lined streets, gas lanterns, and waterfront promenades that provide an elegant, timeless setting for your pregnancy photos.
Our Suffolk studio is just a quick 15-20 minute drive from most Portsmouth neighborhoods — closer than Virginia Beach or Williamsburg — and there are no travel fees for Portsmouth on-location sessions. Studio sessions start at $750 and on-location Portsmouth sessions at $900. Both include a pre-session consultation, 1.5-2 hour session, professional editing, and 15 edited images (11 advanced edits + 4 creative composites). Partners and children are always welcome at no extra charge.

When is the best time to book?
Ideally between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. We recommend booking at least 4-6 weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. Portsmouth's waterfront locations are especially stunning during spring and fall, so those seasons fill up quickly.
What should I wear?
Bring your own outfits — we encourage it! Don't have something special? No problem — we provide tulle robes and customize the color in post-production to match your vision. For Olde Towne sessions, elegant fabrics in rich colors complement the historic architecture beautifully.
Can family be included?
Absolutely! Partners, children, and even pets are welcome at no extra charge. It's a wonderful way to capture your growing family's excitement. Portsmouth City Park and the Olde Towne waterfront are great choices for family-inclusive sessions.
Studio vs. On-Location in Portsmouth?
We offer both, and many clients choose a combination. Start in our private Suffolk studio (just 15-20 minutes away) for polished, controlled-lighting portraits, then head to an Olde Towne or waterfront location for golden hour shots. Studio sessions are $750 and on-location Portsmouth sessions are $900.
Can I do a maternity session at the Olde Towne Portsmouth waterfront?
Yes! The Olde Towne waterfront is one of our most popular Portsmouth maternity locations. The Elizabeth River promenade offers stunning sunset views with the Norfolk skyline in the background. The cobblestone streets and colonial architecture nearby add variety to your gallery. Golden hour sessions here — about 90 minutes before sunset — produce absolutely magical results.

The Elizabeth River waterfront faces west, making it perfect for sunset sessions. Plan to arrive about 90 minutes before sunset for the best golden hour light. Spring and fall evenings offer the most comfortable temperatures.
Comfortable Shoes for Olde Towne
The cobblestone streets in Olde Towne add charm but can be uneven. Bring comfortable walking shoes for between shots — we'll have you slip into your session shoes only when the camera is rolling.
